Drawings 071911

I've been visiting the open figure drawing at Tacoma Academy of Fine Art lately, and it's been lovely to back into it. Been doing alot of sketching lately as well, which is good, because I had a rather dry spell there for a little bit, and was getting rather depressed over it.

Recently I found some old drawings of this sheep girl, so I thought I'd revisit her. Here is a little drawing done after said figure drawing this evening. It's good to work with a warmed up brain and hand! Design wise, I kept thinking about the face of this girl being dark, which somehow seemed very alluring to me. I think it gives off a bit of a feel of ethnic/exotic race. Of course, I had to give her over-the-knee socks in the form of fluffed fur too.

Sketches 041111

Another sketch here! Vala with a mining lance, for mining precious (or not so precious) materials on mars. Also the ringtail guy who still has no name, hmm.

Sketches 040911

A long time since the last update, sorry guys! My volunteer gig at the Tacoma Art Museum finally turned into a job back in January, so I've been pretty busy with that lately! Been finding a bit of time to do some drawing too though, and really enjoying my time doing so. Mostly spending my time working on this here Pinpoint project, that is, when I'm not just drawing unimportant "other" pinup-ish stuff.

Anyways, on to the art! Some recent drawings of Vala, just a bit more updated in design and whatnot. I'll put a few more up tomorrow!

Vala Overwatch

A little landscape painting. Still trying to establish the world.

Sketches 112810

I've decided that the character formerly known as "spacevixen" will now be named Vala. Rather than being a generic white/arctic fox thing, she's now a corsac fox. I think I should tone out her coat a bit more too to match that.

Also trying to come up with a good civilian outfit for her too.

Sketches 092910

An update! A random page of pen doodle. Was up super late last night working on anatomy and did like 4 pages of this stuff, and I learned a bunch!

Also some more Spacevixen concept art! She's still coming along, if not a bit slowly.

Sketches 061110

Ugh, I've been so bad about keeping this thing updated. I've been drawing a bunch, just been too lazy to upload anything anywhere I guess.

I started my gig volunteering at the Tacoma Art Museum, and I've been enjoying it alot! I'm only there once or twice a week right now, but I'm loving every second I'm forced to hang out in a museum with cool art.

As for actual art: stuff! Just some more concept work of Space Vixen and Ringtail Boy (not official names), along with a couple environmental sketches. I still don't know what the hell I'm going to do with these guys; nothing brilliant has come to me yet, so I'll just keeping kicking them around until I figure it out!

Sketches 040710

An introduction to the crew.

Even more Spacevixen concept art, but with some more of her crew! Yes indeed, she doesn't work alone... included are a few coneptual drawings of a feline girl on the left, and a ringtail boy on the right, with another little Spacevixen pinup on the bottom there.

Ringtail boy is the rifle-man...animal of the team. He's a trained gunman and electronics expert. He's a bit timid and untrusting, but can follow orders and carry them out with skill.

Feline chick no doubt is a traditional warrior armed with modern versions of ancient weaponry. She also has vast cultural knowledge. She's intelligent and sweet, but sometimes misunderstood due to the complexities of her people.

I imagine them as a seasoned strike team, or maybe just talented recon? Or perhaps working at a remote defensive location outside of town in some wasteland? Gotta come up with something good. Still having fun with this either way.

I'm finally in my new room!! After a year of living in the... living room, I'm finally here. I still have a bit of trim and finishing touches of paint to do, but it's otherwise done, and I have a place to create again! I'll probably post photos here in a short while.

As for art, here's some stuff! some drawings I did in the last few days here, one of a nonspecific female marine suiting up (maybe down?), and another couple of miss Space Vixen.

More more more will be coming soon too!

More Spacevixen conceptualization

Miss Spacevixen tuning up her ship. No doubt increasing efficiency or installing some sort of new hardware. I'm still having fun with this character, even if she's still pretty well undeveloped.

I'm 90 miles north from home up in Everett for a few days to hang with my buddy Kida! This place ends up sortof being my studio/workspace away from home, away from the noise and distractions of the... often very noisy and distracting house. If all goes well I'll be updating again tonight or tomorrow.

Nothing much else to say at the moment... More soon.

Elina sketches

Some (more) drawings of Elina, the Finnish lapphund :3 Developmental stuff, I guess. The left sketch is an attempt at giving some character, which I need to do more of. Need to cloth my characters more often and give them fun things to do.

I'm also starting to get stuff together for an upcoming sketch-portfolio... more on that later.

DS Colors drawings

A couple of drawings done in DS Colors on the way home from hanging out in Seattle today! I like the idea of drawing the bus environment itself, because it has such a particular feeling to it... particularly the buses in the evening full of business-type people heading home from a day of work. I've done a couple of these little drawings so far, but I often don't have enough time to put as much detail as I'd like in. Just gonna have to get faster!

I've never been one to draw detailed, linear environments either, so it's good practice too. The main problem here is that I need to bump up the contrast, I think. Too much information floating in middle-greys.

Also, Nanette for fun.

Sketchedy stuff

A couple poses inspired by Met art photos. Human practice! Stumbled across a few useful things in these sketches, so I'm happy :3 Also, a little Elina in the bottom-left corner there...

Hello World

First post! I had recently been dreaming of furry space operas... and here is the result!

I realized later a fox protagonist and a wolf antagonist set in space isn't as original as I had first though.... Oh well, still fun!
